Vipingo Development Limited, a subsidiary of Centum Investment, through its CSR arm Centum Foundation, officially launched the Vipingo Development Vocational Training Program at Mkwajuni Youth Polytechnic on Wednesday 12th July 2018 in Kilifi County. The ceremony was graced by the first cohort of beneficiaries of the program, the General Manager of Vipingo Development Kenneth Mbae and the Managing Director of ArcSkills Peter Kimurwa.

The Vocational Training Program shall offer training on relevant skills to eligible youth from the local community and will be implemented in phases in alignment with the labour needs of the various stages of development of Vipingo. After a rigorous recruitment process that saw 150 qualified youth apply for the training program, 50 were selected and offered full scholarships for the program during the launch ceremony. Vipingo has partnered with ArcSkills, a leading education firm, to offer training to the beneficiaries.

Kenneth Mbae stressed the importance of the training program, “Community empowerment is at the heart of Vipingo Development, we are committed to creating a pool of skilled local workforce who will be integral to the economic and social development of the region.” ArcSkills’ Peter Kimurwa addressed the relevance of the curriculum specifying that the training is tailor made to address the critical shortages that exist in key economic growth sectors.

Successful graduates from the programm shall be registered with Vipingo Development’s labour desk for onward deployment to job opportunities in the project. With the acquired certification from the program, the graduates shall also be able to successfully work on any other project across the region.

This vocational training program is also part of Vipingo’s broader CSR initiative in the region that has seen the refurbishment of two primary schools, Makonde and Timboni and Vipingo Scholarship Fund two which has awarded high school scholarships to 100 bright and needy students in the community since its launch two years ago.
