Two Rivers Development has officially opened its most significant CSI project, New Mathari Primary School, in collaboration with the Nairobi City County. The New Mathari Primary School was officially launched on Thursday 13th July. Members of the Nairobi City County government graced the ceremony led by the Governor, His Excellency Dr. Evans Kidero. Also in attendance was the management of Industrial Commercial Development Corporation (ICDC), Catic Kenya and Centum Investment Plc including the Chairman of Centum Investment Committee, Dr. Chris Kirubi and Centum Group CEO, Dr. James Mworia, as well as the staff of Old Mathari Primary School.

In an effort to enhance knowledge and learning, Two Rivers Development undertook a massive project to rebuild Old Mathari Primary School in collaboration with Nairobi City County. The new school has a tuition block with 32 new classrooms, administration offices & staff rooms, a social hall, a dining area, a kitchen, washroom facilities and separate blocks connected with walkways and awnings.

Emphasizing the importance of education, His Excellency Dr. Evans Kidero applauded Centum and its partners for constructing the new school and highlighted the transformational power of education. His remarks were reiterated by Dr. Chris Kirubi who thanked the county government for its cooperation, stressed education as the key to development and advocated for the empowerment of youth. Centum CEO, Dr. James Mworia addressed the students, calling them the torch bearers of the community, and encouraged them to take advantage of the new school’s resources to realize their dreams. Mrs. Mary Koine, the Old Mathari Primary School Head teacher, expressed her gratitude to all the partners that were involved in refurbishing the old school and termed the move as a win for the entire education sector.

Increasing classrooms from 8 to 36 creates an opportunity for over 1000 additional students from Mathari and the greater Nairobi region to access quality education facilities. The new school also creates a conducive environment for learning, with this expected to improve conversion rate to high school and employability of students from Old Mathari Primary School. In addition, the new school has also created employment opportunities for 18 teachers due to the increased number of students.

By rebuilding the school, Two Rivers Development Ltd and its partners have contributed to Kenya’s attainment of the Global Sustainable Development Goal on Education of ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all.
